Manufacturer Description

Agilent 1260 Infinity II Quaternary Pump (G1311B)

The Agilent 1260 Infinity II Quaternary Pump (G1311B) is a robust and highly versatile solvent delivery system engineered to meet the demanding requirements of modern High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Designed for seamless integration within the Agilent 1260 Infinity II LC system, this pump delivers exceptional performance for a wide range of analytical and semi-preparative applications, from routine quality control to advanced method development. Its innovative design ensures precise and pulse-free solvent delivery, enabling superior chromatographic resolution and reproducibility even at elevated pressures.

Features:

  • High-Pressure Capabilities: Achieve exceptional chromatographic performance with an extended pressure range of up to 600 bar (8,700 psi). This allows for the use of smaller particle size columns, enabling higher resolution, faster separations, and the ability to work with more viscous solvents or longer columns.

  • Flexible Quaternary Solvent Blending: Benefit from unparalleled flexibility in mobile phase preparation with low-pressure mixing from up to four individual solvent channels. This accelerates method development, streamlines mobile phase preparation, and simplifies HPLC system flushing.

  • Pulse-Free Solvent Delivery: Experience consistently stable and virtually pulse-free solvent flow, thanks to the precision-engineered dual floating pistons in series with a servo-controlled variable stroke volume. This ensures optimal baseline stability and highly reproducible retention times.

  • Integrated Vacuum Degasser: An advanced 4-channel vacuum degasser is seamlessly integrated into the pump, providing efficient and continuous removal of dissolved gases from up to four solvents, preventing air bubbles that can interfere with pump performance and detector signals.

  • Robust and Low-Maintenance Design: Constructed with highly durable materials such as stainless steel, titanium, gold, ruby, sapphire, ceramics, PEEK, and PTFE, the G1311B is built for longevity and minimizes maintenance requirements, contributing to lower operational costs.

  • Method Transfer Capability: Facilitates easy and secure transfer of methods from conventional HPLC to sub-2-micron columns, providing seamless scalability and enhanced productivity.

  • Broad Flow Rate Range: A wide flow range up to 10 mL/min perfectly supports both standard analytical and semi-preparative applications, making it an ideal choice for 4.6 mm and 3.0 mm internal diameter columns.

Specifications:

  • Pump Type: Quaternary Pump (Low-pressure gradient mixing)

  • Hydraulic System: Dual piston in series pump with servo-controlled variable stroke drive, floating pistons

  • Settable Flow Range: 0.001 – 10 mL/min, in 0.001 mL/min increments

  • Flow Range: 0.2 – 10.0 mL/min

  • Flow Precision: 0.07% RSD, or 0.02 min SD (whichever is greater, based on retention time at constant room temperature)

  • Flow Accuracy: 1% or 10 µL/min (whichever is greater, pumping degassed H2O at 10 MPa)

  • Pressure Operating Range:

    • 0 – 60 MPa (0 – 600 bar, 0 – 8,700 psi) up to 5 mL/min

    • 0 – 20 MPa (0 – 200 bar, 0 – 2,950 psi) up to 10 mL/min

  • Pressure Pulsation: 2% amplitude (typically 1.3%), or 0.3 MPa (3 bar), whichever is greater, at 1 mL/min isopropanol, at all pressures 1 MPa (10 bar)

  • Gradient Formation: Low pressure quaternary mixing/gradient capability using proprietary high-speed proportioning valve

  • Integrated Degassing Unit: 4 channels, 1.5 mL internal volume per channel

  • Recommended pH Range: 1.0 – 12.5 (solvents with pH 2.3 should not contain acids which attack stainless steel)

Included Seal Wash Pump Option:

The included Seal Wash Pump option is a critical enhancement for extending the lifespan and ensuring the reliability of the Agilent 1260 Infinity II Quaternary Pump, especially when utilizing demanding mobile phases. This active seal wash system incorporates a small peristaltic pump that continuously flushes the backside of the pump seals with a dedicated wash solvent.

Purpose of the Seal Wash Pump:

Highly concentrated buffer solutions, salts, or other aggressive mobile phase components can lead to premature wear and corrosion of the pump seals and plungers. Over time, these components can crystallize behind the seals, causing abrasion, leaks, and ultimately, pump failure. The Seal Wash Pump actively prevents this by:

  • Preventing Crystal Formation: Continuously rinsing away buffer salts and corrosive components before they can accumulate and crystallize on the delicate pump seals.

  • Extending Seal and Plunger Lifespan: By keeping the sealing surfaces clean, it significantly reduces abrasive wear, extending the operational life of the pump seals and sapphire plungers.

  • Maintaining Performance: Ensures consistent pump performance, pressure stability, and reduced maintenance downtime by minimizing seal degradation.

The Seal Wash Pump is particularly recommended for applications involving high concentrations of buffer solutions (0.1 Molar or higher) or when using mobile phases prone to crystallization. It typically utilizes a mixture of deionized water and a small percentage of isopropanol as the wash solvent to optimize cleaning and prevent microbial growth. This proactive maintenance feature underscores the G1311B's design for long-term, reliable operation in the most challenging chromatographic environments.
